THE GREENSBURG EF5 TORNADO MAY 4, 2007
The nocturnal multi-vortex monster that redefined the Enhanced Fujita scale.
On May 4, 2007, at 9:45 p.m., a massive nocturnal EF5 tornado nearly wiped the entire town of Greensburg, Kansas off the map with winds exceeding 205 mph. Tracking for 28.8 miles with a peak width of 1.7 miles, this catastrophic storm was the very first event rated EF5 under the newly implemented Enhanced Fujita scale. It remains a legendary study of severe nighttime supercells and historical town reconstruction.
