The storm
The Greensburg tornado of May 4, 2007, the first ever rated EF5, drawn as a vintage field survey sheet. Its 28.8-mile path sweeps north across a topographic map of Kiowa County, Kansas, coloured along its length by the strength of damage the National Weather Service survey found, with the EF5 core plotted where it struck Greensburg. Touchdown and lift are marked with their times, the towns it passed through are named, and state lines are marked where the map crosses them. Below the map sit a short written account of the day and the figures: path length, maximum width, rating, time of touchdown, deaths and injuries. Aged paper with ink bleed, foxing and fold lines.
