The storm
On 26 April 1989, a violent F4 tornado touched down near Daulatpur in the Manikganj District of Bangladesh. The storm tracked east for 80 kilometers, striking the town of Saturia with extreme force. The devastation was absolute — every home within a six-square-kilometer area was completely destroyed.
Official reports indicate 1,300 deaths and 12,000 injuries, with 80,000 people left homeless. It remains the deadliest tornado ever recorded globally, with winds estimated at 260 mph across a path 1,760 yards wide.
