The storm
Twenty forms a tornado takes, set as a field bulletin headed KNOW THE TYPES. A grid of plates runs from the V-shaped funnel and the drill bit to the rope, wedge, elephant trunk, bulb and twins, each drawn in cream ink on black and named beneath, the way storm spotters learn to tell them apart. Shape says little of strength: a thin rope can be violent and a broad wedge weak, which is why tornadoes are rated from the damage they leave. Worn black print with grain, scratches and a well-copied finish.
